Kajari Teej 2026: Celebrating Monsoon Melodies, Women’s Bonds and Emotional Strength

Kajari Teej will be observed on Monday, 31 August 2026. Also known as Kajali Teej or Badi Teej in some regions, the festival is celebrated during the monsoon season and is especially connected with women’s prayers, traditional songs and family relationships.

While Hariyali Teej celebrates the arrival and freshness of the monsoon, Kajari Teej carries a more reflective mood. The kajari folk songs traditionally associated with the festival express longing, love, separation, hope and the emotional experiences of women. Through music, feelings that may be difficult to express in everyday conversation are given a voice.

The celebration may begin with women wearing traditional clothes, applying mehndi and gathering with friends or relatives. Folk songs, swings and shared stories create an atmosphere of companionship. In some regions, married women visit their maternal homes or receive gifts and sweets from their families. These traditions preserve the bond between a woman and the home where she grew up, even after marriage.

Devotees may worship Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva while praying for harmony, strength and well-being in married life. The puja may include flowers, roli, akshat, fruits, sweets and a diya. Some women observe a vrat and listen to the Kajari Teej katha. Regional traditions vary, and some communities also include sattu-based preparations or special offerings.

Fasting should always be approached with care. Pregnant women, elderly devotees and those managing health concerns should adapt the vrat according to medical guidance and family traditions. Devotion is measured through sincerity, compassion and self-control—not through unnecessary physical discomfort.

Kajari Teej can also be understood as a celebration of emotional strength. Women often carry responsibilities across multiple generations, caring for children, elders, partners and extended families. The festival provides a moment for women to pause, gather together and support one another. Singing, sharing food or simply discussing life experiences can become forms of healing and companionship.

A Traditional Puja Thali Set can help organize the offerings for Shiva-Parvati puja. A Daily Puja Kit may provide useful essentials for a simple home ceremony, while Floating Oil Wicks can create a calm devotional setting during the evening aarti.

Children can participate by helping decorate the puja area, listening to traditional kajari songs or learning why festivals differ across regions. Elders may share songs that were sung in their childhood, preserving oral traditions that may otherwise disappear over time.

Kajari Teej reminds families that strong relationships need more than rituals. They require listening, emotional understanding and mutual respect. Worshipping Shiva and Parvati becomes more meaningful when their qualities of devotion, balance and companionship are reflected in everyday family life.

As the monsoon begins to soften and the season moves forward, Kajari Teej encourages us to honour both joy and longing. Every emotion has a place, and every person deserves to be heard.

May Maa Parvati bless women with strength, relationships with understanding and every home with peace and companionship.
