Vasant Panchami marks the onset of spring. The Vasant Panchami festival is celebrated in different states of India.
It falls on the fifth day (Panchami) of the Hindu month of Magha.

According to a religious belief, goddess Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge, arts, music, science and technology was born on this day. So, people worship her to get wisdom.
Also, on this day kids are taught their first words in some places. This is also known as Akshar Abhyasam. It means initiation of education.
It’s believed that Saraswati Maa’s vehicle i.e swan is blessed with an ability to separate water from milk. Therefore it teaches humans to differentiate between the good and the bad.
This day is also considered as a very auspicious day to start work.

Interestingly, during Vasant Panchami, the yellow color holds great significance. People usually go for yellow colored dresses on this day and distribute sweets made of saffron. Reason being, it’s associated with the color of mustard flowers that bloom during this season, that’s why wearing yellow is also encouraged.
It’s also considered very auspicious to get married or perform house warming ceremony on this day. Although there’s no specific time to perform Saraswati Puja on Vasant Panchami day, however, most of the people perform Saraswati Puja during Purvahna Kala. It’s the time between the sunrise and the midday. Some of the main items in puja are roli, moli, lal dhaga, dhoop batti, agar batti, laung, cardamom, pencil box, jo, janeu, haldi etc. You can get the complete puja kit for Saraswati Maa Puja for this day by clicking here..
